40 Degrees and Raining!

And yes, that is big news for a Southern California afternoon. We even live high enough above sea level that we have an actual possibility of snow tonight. Snow! Here! It's rare, but it has happened. I woke up to snow one morning about 20 some years ago and nearly fell over at the sight. It was a pretty decent white coating too... definitely enough for a fair snowball fight. It was pretty much gone by noon, but I'll never forget it.

Anyway, it never made it out of the low 40's today and has been raining off and on all day. I can't remember the last time we had cold weather and rain at the same time. I got a chance to throw on a handknit scarf for more than a touch of style but I do have a question for you cold weather dwellers...

How do you manage shopping when you're wearing a winter jacket? What a pain.

Anyway, I had to take my teens out because their youth group was having a formal Christmas party and they needed some new pants.

(Ignore the short sleeves... they always wear short sleeves.... we're in So Cal. And I had to go on YouTube to learn how to tie a tie.) Don't they look sharp? Don't they look like they can't stand being near each other? They can't. It's sad really, but I figure they'll outgrow it. Someday.

Maybe it's their different personalities?

Maybe. We got a new youth group leader at our church about 4 months ago... he didn't even know they were related until last week. Niiiiice.

Anyway, I whipped up these mitts out of a hank of Noro Cashmere Island. Wonderful stuff.

They don't match at all though. I was going to buy a second hank to try for 2 matching pairs but I kinda like the mismatched look. They were super quick to knit so I may grab some more of the yarn to have on hand for gifts.
Well, DH just got home and we have a date for some internet gift shopping. Gotta run.

So funny about the group leader not knowing they were related! My sister and I are night and day. We had snow last week- I hope you wake up to it today!

I see a tree in there. I hope you do get snow. I doubt we will, although it was chilly last night. My MIL & FIL have a chance of snow. We'll have to go up to their house if it does.

My boys have learned a windsor knot from putting a saddle on a horse. Maybe they'll still remember it in 10 years.

We've got some snow up here in Seattle - I grew up in LA and I still resist wearing big puffy jackets unless absolutely necessary - makes me claustrophic - had to don one to play in the snow with the kiddos today though!
Love the mitts!

Handsome young men!
My sister and I would fight all the time, even in our sleep(!), but now we're getting along really well. So there's always hope;-)
We haven't gotten any snow either, but it's raining buckets...we had a week with really cold weather, and the road was glazed...the kids loved it; me, not so much-LOL!

My sister and I have gotten much much closer as adults. Near inseparable, I'd say.

On the other hand, my spouse and his brother don't talk. Don't. Talk.

Go figure.

when did your eldest get your hubby smile. I see it there in the top photo. I almost thought it was hubby. Wow. They do look sharp. Hope they had fun.

Your boys look very handsome. I don't understand how somebody can not see the family resemblance. I also wonder when my kids will stop fighting, but I'm surely not holding my breath for this to happen anytime soon.

So shopping in the cold. I just leave my jacket in the car and freeze my butt off on the way to the store. Your sons look very handsome and I'm sure sooner or later they will be best buddies(or at least be able to tolerate each other)

Don't you love when the big guys clean up like that? They look so handsome!

I just heard the snow plow go by...must mean it's time to layer up and head off to the store. The jacket doesn't phase me, it's clunky snow boots that make driving and life overall more challenging. Worse though? Skiers who think their ski boots are shoes and wear them everywhere, including to clomp through the grocery store. I have yet to figure out if they are just showing off, if they *think* it's cool and want to fit in with locals, or really just love the pain.

Ahhh...winter! I may have to start taking my camera on errands now that I think about it.

My boys are like two cats in a paper bag--all thrashing and yowling and scratching each other constantly. I've always wondered if having another would have been made it better. Guess you've answered my question about that!

I finally got a chance to look up that Noro book and I have to say that it has a number of really nice things to knit!! I love your mitts, and personally I don't care as much for the matchy matchy...your stripes are gorgeous the way they are :-)

I love the mitts; I think they're beautiful!

Too funny about your boys. They make for a handsome picture though.
