October Skies

Unfortunately, here in Southern California, we only get to see the colors of autumn in the sky.

As if the dry, pollen-filled Santa Ana winds weren't enough... fires, whether intentional or accidental, are always a part of the season as well.

If there's any question about the efficiency of wind source energy, talk to me... because nothing energizes a child more than some gusty wind. Unfortunately, the itchy eyes and accompanying smoke make it too miserable to play outside. So they stay inside. With me. (This is when all the rules about TV and video games go out the window.)

During the 2003 fire season, my husband was traveling and I was stuck inside with a three year old and a five year old for NINE DAYS. Last year, we repeated the nine days of purgatory, but the neighbors got together and send all the kids from one house to the next every hour, so that we each only had to endure an hour at a time. Old dogs evidently can learn new tricks.

Dear Tammy,
I'm sorry you have to deal with the scary fires.
You have to be brave to live in sunny California.

I hope you are away from the fire, if not the smoke!

Honey Bunny just missed going down your way on a strike team, but we do have friends who went.

I hope you and your family are out of harms way. Mother nature gets us all no matter where in the country we are!

Are the fires very close to you? Or does the smoke really travel with the wind? Well, at least you can identify with my feelings of cabin fever when we are sub-zero for what seems forever :::sigh:::

Blessings,

Those are beautiful colors - too bad they have to come with itchy eyes and breathing difficulties!! Try to stay sane while indoors for extended periods of time with children! And, yes, forget the TV, video game rules! :-)

Since you have not blogged in a few days, I hope and pray it is because you are too busy knitting and teaching your boys, and not because you had to evacuate.

Stay safe - I'm praying for you!
