A little Progress

In spite of the great distraction caused by my discovery of itunes (I know... I'm way behind the times here), I managed to finish the back of the Katia top.

I'm really enjoying this yarn and the pattern. In addition to the tubular cast-on, it also features some tubular knitting and a tubular bind-off to give the neck a nice firm edge. All new to me... and fun. The tubular bind-off is done with a needle and thread... it kind of reminds me of the kitchener stitch. And although cotton is usually a great bother to my hands when knitting, I've found that if I go down a needle size and knit a bit loser, it's much easier to knit with.

I was thrilled to find a children's version of the book I'm currently reading (Great Expectations) at the craft store today. I came home and enthusiastically showed it to a couple of my younger boys, "Boys! You could read the same book as me and we could talk about it!" Think blank stares. "Maybe I could pay you?!" That got raised eyebrows. "Maybe I'll just make you!" Ugh!

Well, I'm really enjoying the book anyway. I'm wondering what to read next. What's been your favorite summer read?

Oh, and I picked up a skein of Cotton Ease while I was there too... and a crochet hook... still dreaming of crocheting... someday.

Cotton Ease is on my "craft store list" for this month when I'm travelling (we don't have one here). I know people groan and moan, but I've heard really good things about it. :0)

I bought a bunch of cotton ease in blue when it showed up for some reason in our dollar store, every baby I knit for gets a least ONE thing made out of it! I have a hard time getting my kids to read classics too, we listened to Moby Dick on our trip and you would of thought we were pushing needles under their nails with all the groaning and complaining going on.

My favorite summer read? Nineteen Minutes was good and so was The Kite Runner. I wish I could read and knit at the same time (well, something other than stst).

We just inherited from my cousin a stack of classics in comic book form. Not as good as the real thing, but it's a start.

I really should start reading again, but when I get a free time in the evening, I want to knit. If I could only quit work...

I also heard the Kite Runner was excellent.

Hi, Tammy. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm a mom of three boys in San Diego--and we have love snakes!

I've tried Cotton Ease, and it's pretty nice. (Not as nice as my new favorite, Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, but still nice.)

I really like cotton ease! I bought a bunch of the old discontinued stuff at a dollar store a few years ago.
Your sweater is looking really good!

I pulled out my favorite Flannery O'Connor short stories after rereading Watership Down. What with all the bunnies around and the sultry heat of late, it's been a nice combination.
